Give your little learner an interactive puzzle that makes real train sounds. From Lights, Camera, Interaction, this clever Train Sound Puzzle adds a new twist to traditional puzzle play. As soon as the puzzle is completed, it rewards young builders by making fun engine noises.
Puzzle features easy-to-grip knobs and oversized pieces that are just-right for little hands. Measures approximately 11.5" x 8.5". Hand-crafted and made of real wood. Requires 2 "AAA" batteries (not included).
Will make sound unexpectedly (2008-12-04)
This puzzle looks and feels sturdy. However, it will sound unexpectedly even when the puzzle is not in place. Sometimes it will give you a creepy feel because of it. Mine will sound especially when I turn my lights off (even without all the puzzle pieces in place!). Sometimes it will sound when I walk by it. On the other hand, it won't sound even after I put the puzzle together 5 out of 10 times. I won't recommend it.
Sound Puzzles! (2008-09-10)
How cute! You finish the puzzle and the train whistle blows! My grandson adores it!
One of the Best Puzzle Makers Out There (2008-07-25)
I love Melissa and Doug puzzles - and this one is no exception. My son loves putting things together. As a mother, I get tired of the lights and sounds toys that over-stimulate children and teach them little anyway.
In regards to the sound "going off" - if it really bothers you that much then don't put the batteries in. I am THRILLED that the sound is not as loud as those other LeapFrog, Playskool and other toys that could deafen a child if you stay too close for too long. Of course the sound goes off when the lights go out - only if you have not cleaned up and put the toy away. We have NO problems at all and encourage anyway to buy it and other like it. My 18 month old can put it together on his own, so don't always go by the "recommended" age.
In regards to the peg problem, we are pretty strong people and never had a peg problem nor realized they could possibly come off. They are so small the worse case scenario would be the child will swallow it whole (because it is not big enough to choke anyone) and it comes out the other end.
Whoo-whooooo! (2008-05-10)
My two-and-a-half year-old loves this puzzle, although he still needs some help putting it together. The sound is a great "reward" for getting the last piece in. As long as you store it with all the pieces in, it doesn't go off at random. I suggest getting one of the puzzle storage racks also sold by Melissa and Doug.
Good product with one drawback (2006-10-11)
First off, I will address the issue of the choo-choo sound constantly going off. The same thing happened to our puzzle, constantly! I realized that the sound is light-activated... when all of the pieces are put together, the "sensor" goes off because of the darkness. If there are any pieces missing and the lights go off, the same thing happens, because the sound is triggered by light/darkness.
Great product - fun and brightly colored. However, the little pegs that serve as the handles to each individual piece may come loose and disattach, posing a choking hazard for the child. Use with parental supervision!
